By joining the Matawa River Guardians you are uniting with a network of community members who care about the environment, and who want to ensure it is protected for future generations, by preserving knowledge of the land, water and wildlife.

Without River Guardians to collect information on the land, the Environmental Knowledge Lodge may dwindle and eventually disappear as communities lose Elders and traditional land users. Becoming a River guardian means you can help your community gather the information it needs to ensure that resource development is carried out in a responsible manner, and the environment is protected.

There are different ways for community members to participate.  Community members can become a volunteer guardian simply by making observations and taking photos while out on the land hunting, fishing, camping, or berry picking, and sending them to the secure Environmental Knowledge Lodge by using the Survey123 app on their smart phone, tablet, or computer.

Community Science Survey & Survey123

Actively steward the land and support your community in monitoring and making informed decisions about the land and water by documenting what you are seeing on the land and water through the Community Science Survey.  This survey can be completed below or you can download the Survey123 app on your smart phone and complete it each time you see something out on the land.

You can upload your photos, videos and observation when you are out on the land, or when you get home!

Download the Survey123 app and have the Community Science Survey on your smart phone or tablet!

Community members can also join the Facebook Group, where River Guardians can connect, share, and work together:
